VALHEIM · GETTING STARTED

A Valheim world that does not depend on who is online.

Choose between a local Valheim session and a dedicated server, check platform compatibility, and get your friends into the same private world.

The short answer

Choose a dedicated Valheim server when friends need to join without waiting for the player who hosts. Confirm that every player uses the supported edition, protect the world password, and test one real connection before inviting the whole group. Campworld currently offers Cross-play Vanilla in Europe for €19.90 per world per month, subject to available capacity.

Start with your group’s schedule.

A local session is a sensible starting point when everyone plays together and one person is happy to host. A dedicated server is useful when the group has different schedules or wants one shared meeting place. Think about the quiet Tuesday session as well as the big Friday gathering.

Before comparing monthly prices, agree on three things: who owns the subscription, who handles the group’s access details, and who keeps a separate copy of important progress. Write those answers in the group chat. It prevents the world from depending on one person’s memory.

Check the edition before the price.

Iron Gate documents separate Steam and crossplay server modes. A Steam-backend server is for Steam players; the optional crossplay mode uses a different connection path. For a self-hosted Steam setup, the official default ports are UDP 2456–2457. [1]

New Campworld Valheim worlds use PlayFab cross-play networking in Europe. The server has registered a real cross-play session; new platform combinations still need a licensed-client check. Join with the public address or reveal the current join code in world credentials. Mod packs are not included. Ask every friend which edition they own before ordering. A familiar game name does not guarantee a compatible server.

  • Everyone owns a compatible, updated copy of Valheim.
  • The group wants an unmodded world.
  • Europe is a suitable location for your group.
  • One person will manage billing and renewal.

Make the first join a small rehearsal.

Create the world from the Campworld console, then follow its actual setup status. Read the final price and availability before paying. A submitted order and an install in progress are not the same thing as a playable world.

When the world is ready, use the address and password shown in its page. Join from one game client first, check that the expected world loads, and then share connection details with friends. Never share your Campworld sign-in code. If something fails, send support the world name, time of the attempt and what the game displayed; leave passwords out of screenshots.

Treat the save as part of the plan.

Download a completed backup after a milestone and before a major change. Give the copy a useful name and keep it somewhere separate from the server. For an existing world, contact support about compatibility before assuming an import will work.

A short preparation message is enough: “Steam, vanilla, Europe; I manage the subscription; save copy after each big build.” The point is to make the next session easy to arrange, not to turn one friend into an unpaid system administrator.
